First meeting of the new Gardabær town council

Almar Guðmundsson, who is the senior chairman of the municipal council, called a meeting. Almar welcomed the municipal council members to the first meeting of the newly elected municipal council for the 2026-2030 term and congratulated them on their election to the municipal council. Almar thanked the former municipal council members for their work for the benefit of the community.

At this first meeting, Anna Ragnheiður Möller (D) was elected president of the town council, Jón Þór Eggertsson (D) was elected first vice president of the town council, and Þorbjörg Þorvaldsdóttir (G) was elected second vice president of the town council.

At this first meeting of the new town council, standing committees and various collaborative committees were elected. Information on the committee structure can be found in the town council minutes from June 4th.

Municipal council meetings open to the public

Garðabær Town Council 2026-2030 is composed of 11 representatives. In the elections in May 2026, the following representatives were elected to the municipal council.:

The municipal council shall govern the municipality in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act. It shall be responsible for the management of institutions and enterprises under the municipality, to the extent that it has not delegated this responsibility to others. Other tasks include the election of councils and committees under the municipality, the management of the municipality's finances, the preparation of resolutions and the determination of fees, as prescribed by law and as necessary.

Garðabær Town Council meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of each month and begin at 5 p.m. Town Council meetings are held in Sveinatunga, the town council meeting room at Garðatorg 7.

Town council meetings are open to everyone and are also broadcast live on the Garðabær website.

The minutes of the town council are published on the Garðabær website the day after the meeting.
