Continued collaboration between Garðabær and Stjörnunn confirmed

A renewed cooperation agreement between Garðabær and Stjörnunn was signed at a fun event in Hekluhöll, shortly before the Stjörnunn men's handball team's playoff game for a place in the Olís league next season.
Almar Guðmundsson, mayor of Garðabær, and Sigurður Guðmundsson, chairman of Stjörnunn, signed the agreement. "There was certainly a lot of excitement in Heklahöll when Sigurður and I confirmed the renewed cooperation agreement and thus the continued cooperation that has proven to be very successful over the years. Then Stjörnunn secured its continuation in the Olísdeildar, which was of course very satisfying and put the finishing touches on it," says Almar.
The cooperation agreement stipulates the mutual obligations of the contracting parties regarding the implementation of sports activities in Garðabær.
The agreement states that Stjarnan's goal in its activities is to offer children and young people of all genders organized sports activities under the guidance of well-educated and qualified instructors, with public health and the preventive value of sports as its guiding principles. Furthermore, the company shall foster competitive and high-performance athletes so that they can achieve the best possible results.
Garðabær then supports the financial operational and working basis of the company through an agreement on the use of sports facilities and direct financial contributions that go, among other things, to Stjörnun's sports school, to the company's general operations and to its performance activities. Garðabær also provides Stjörnun with a special contribution that is intended, among other things, to support the company's prevention work. The agreement is valid until the end of 2028.
"The agreement is a confirmation of the trust and shared vision that we have built over the years. Stjarnan is at the heart of so much in our community, especially in the lives of children and young people, and it is very important to us that we can continue to improve the facilities, increase opportunities and support every single child who wants to participate," says Sigurður.
