The first meeting of the new Gardabær town council was held on June 4, 2026.

On the occasion of Garðabær celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, residents are invited to apply for an allocation from a special neighborhood and street pool to hold a street party this summer with their neighbors.

Construction on paths along Hafnarfjörður Road continues. Now it's time for the section from Laufás to Álftanesvegur.

A closure will be in place on Vífilsstaðavegur, from Kirkjulund to Karlabraut, due to maintenance work on the speed bumps.

A total of 3,205,201 krónur was raised at the Jazz Village in Garðabær, which took place over the weekend of April 30th – May 3rd. The Alzheimer's Association benefits from the sale and receives unrestricted sales of furniture and items from Góði hirðinn, while Húsgagnahöllin, Tekk and Ikea also contributed to the project.

From June 1 to September 30, Ásgarðslaug and Álftaneslaug will be open longer on Sundays, or until 10:00 PM instead of 6:00 PM.

Next Monday, June 1st, Loftorka will be working on paving Eyktarhæð, from Hæðarbraut to Jökulhæð and Kögunarhæð, weather permitting.

Due to repairs, there will be no cold water on Norðurnesvegur and the surrounding area on Wednesday, June 3rd, 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM.

The Town Artist of Garðabær 2026 was named at a ceremony in Sveinatunga on Garðatorg on May 28th. The Town Artist is actor Jónmundur Grétarsson. On the same occasion, architect Sigurður Hallgrímsson was honored for his invaluable contribution to architecture.

Due to a fault, there will be no hot water in parts of Garðabær on Thursday, May 28, from 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Ásgarðslaug must close at 1:00 PM.

The residents' hard work in spring cleaning the plots has been great. 10 containers will remain standing until Friday.

Gardabaer's cycling policy was unveiled this spring, and the goal of the policy is to create better conditions for cycling and improve its image so that Gardabaer residents of all ages choose to take more trips by bike.
