Applications for vegetable boxes open on May 21st

The vegetable boxes are located in Hæðahverfi, in Álftanes and in two locations in Urriðaholt, above Kauptún and below Dýjagata.

Number of boxes increased between years

In recent years, renting vegetable boxes has become increasingly popular and to meet the need, boxes have now been added in several locations between years. The vegetable boxes available are 2m x 4m or 8m² in size and are marked with numbers.

The rental period is from mid-May - October 15th and the rental price is 5,500 ISK.

• In Hæðahverfi there are 41 vegetable boxes for rent (20 boxes added since last year). NOTE: Of these, 10 boxes are only for rent until September 15th.
• There are 10 vegetable boxes for rent at Álftanes.
• In Urriðaholt, below Dýjagata, there are 47 vegetable boxes for rent (19 boxes added since last year). NOTE: 10 of these boxes are only for rent until September 15th.
• In Urriðaholt, above Kauptún, there are 10 vegetable boxes for rent.

Vegetable boxes for winter rental next fall

This fall, for the first time, it will be possible to rent vegetable boxes for a long-term period, i.e. for a whole year, from September 20, 2026 to September 15, 2027. The long-term lease is intended for those who plan to grow vegetables that need to be in the ground for a long time, such as garlic. As previously mentioned, the long-term lease is for one year and is for experimental purposes and is only intended for those who plan to use them over the winter as well as the following summer. Further information about renting the boxes for winter rental will be announced at the end of August on the Garðabær website.
