Garðabær , Kópavogur and Sprettur have signed a letter of intent to build a community stable and classroom.

Almar Guðmundsson, Mayor of Garðabær, Ásdís Kristjánsdóttir, Mayor of Kópavogur and Halldór Victorsson, Chairman of Sprett, have signed a letter of intent to build a community stable and a school. The community stable will accommodate 40 horses and will have facilities for disabled people to take riding lessons. There is also an idea that primary school students in the municipalities will be able to take riding lessons as part of their choice of primary school during school hours.

"Sprettur has the vision of making horsemanship and the experience of horses more accessible to a wider group in society than is known today with an emphasis on health promotion, social support and education," the statement of intent states, and it also states that it is important to support the two municipalities' goals of public health, well-being and sustainability.

"The development of a teaching and social stable will create a platform that can, among other things, offer services to a wider group with an emphasis on social support and physiotherapy with the assistance of horses. This is in line with international developments in horse-related health promotion and supports recruitment into equestrianism, increased participation and access for everyone to safe and professional facilities," it also states.

The estimated size of the club stable is 450 square meters and the estimated cost is 170 million ISK.

With the letter of intent, Garðabær and Kópavogur declare that the municipalities are willing to contribute 55 million ISK each to the project, for a total of 110 million ISK. A separate agreement will be made for the project and a working group will be established.
