Here you can find information about what to keep in mind when parking trailers according to traffic laws.
Every year, the Gardabær customer service center receives several tips and complaints about travel trailers (caravans, motorhomes, campers, trailers, etc.) parked on the town's residential streets. Many of these trailers are large and obstruct drivers' vision, thereby reducing road safety.
On occasion, we remind you of the rules that apply to the installation of a vehicle.
According to the Traffic Act, campers, camper vans, caravans, trailers and similar vehicles are classified as vehicles. Therefore, the same rules apply to the parking of caravans as to other vehicles. For example, you can:
- Do not stop or park a vehicle in a way that could cause danger or unnecessary inconvenience to other traffic.
- Only stop or park vehicles on the right side in the direction of travel.
- Do not stop or park vehicles in places not intended for the traffic of such vehicles, such as sidewalks, footpaths, pedestrian streets, cycle lanes or cycle paths. The same applies to traffic islands, grass areas or other similar places.
- Do not park in a way that obscures traffic signs or traffic lights.
- Do not park partially or completely in front of a driveway to a house or property.
- Don't park in a dead-end street.
- Do not park in a way that obstructs access to or movement of another vehicle from the site.
- Do not park near a fire hydrant.
- in road tunnels, under bridges or on bridges, unless specifically provided for
