Raising sea walls at Álftanes

The Icelandic Road Administration and Gardabær's construction work on raising the seawalls at Álftanes is still in full swing. At the end of January, work began on raising the seawalls on a 540-meter section at Kasthúsatjörn, but the work is now continuing and the following work is to be carried out:

• Approximately 50 meters of extension of the existing sea defense at Hliðsnes along with a new 300-meter section east of the existing defense.
• Renovations and elevation of approximately 140 meters on Höfðabraut.

Construction machinery traffic can be expected on Höfðabraut in the coming weeks due to this. Work on Höfðabraut is scheduled to take place over the next 2-3 weeks.

The entire project will be completed no later than May 15, 2026.
