The collaboration between Garðabær and Hjallastefna grows and thrives in Vífilsstaðir

Garðabær and Hjallastefnan have signed an agreement on the priorities for building the Hjallastefna school community in Vífilsstaðir. The agreement was signed at a pleasant outdoor ceremony, in the grove of trees at Hjallastefna Primary School.
Hjallastefnan currently operates two preschools in Vífilsstaðir, Hnoðraholt and Litla-Ása, which will continue to operate under the name Vífilsholt, as well as Hjallastefna Children's School. The agreement provides for the continued operation of these schools in the area and for them to grow further.
The goal of the agreement is to expand and strengthen the school community in Vífilsstaðir and thus create better conditions for children and families in the neighborhood.
Continuing development of educational institutions in Vífilsstaðir
The agreement includes, on the one hand, that during the ongoing planning work at Vífilsstaðir, Garðabær will ensure that sufficient space is secured for Hjallastefna activities in the area. On the other hand, it is stipulated that Garðabær and Hjallastefna will jointly prepare the expansion of Vífilsholt.
Garðabær will be responsible for the expansion, which is scheduled to be completed in August 2027. The construction will increase the number of preschool places and it is expected that Vífilsholt will become a preschool for at least 80 children upon completion, compared to just under 50 children today.

The agreement is based on the shared will of both parties to ensure a stable and strong school community in Vífilsstaðir.
"Both parties agree on the importance of collaboration on the operation of schools in the area, and therefore securing space for the future is key," said Almar Guðmundsson, Mayor of Gardabaer. "With this agreement, we are both putting stronger roots in schooling in the area and at the same time creating more space for children who will be moving to new residential areas nearby. The collaboration with Hjallistenfnu here in Gardabaer over the years has been successful and exemplary. It is a vivid example of how municipalities and self-employed parties can have a thriving and constructive collaboration that results in increased quality, diversity and efficiency for residents."
