Please note that it is necessary to enroll 8th grade students who change schools.

NOTE: For student enrollment in the spring semester of 2026, please contact the office of the elementary school your child is enrolling in for further instructions.

Transfer between schools within Gardabaer and study abroad

Applications for transfers between schools within Gardabaer and study abroad also go through application to primary school on island.is

Registration for students in grades 2-9 who wish to transfer between schools also took place from March 2-10.

Please note that the application deadline for permission to study in primary schools in other municipalities and independently run primary schools in the 2026-2027 school year is April 1st. Applications are schooling outside the municipality through island.is.

Please note that an application for a student studying at a primary school outside of Garðabær must be renewed for each school year.

Students who do not live in Garðabær

School administrators at a primary school in Garðabær may authorize a student with a legal residence in a municipality other than Garðabær to attend a primary school in Garðabær, provided that sufficient housing space is available, the decision does not result in additional costs for Garðabær, and there is an agreement with the relevant municipality regarding payment of tuition fees.

Check-in at a leisure center

Enrollment of children wishing to stay at the after-school centers of Álftanesskóli, Flataskóli, Hofsstaðaskóli, Sjálandskóli and Urriðaholtsskóli next year took place from March 2-10, 2026. Application for a summer camp is in Väla winter camp (also accessible through the Garðabær service portal). The same applies to the special after-school program Garðahraun , which is for students in grades 5-10. It is important to apply for a stay at after-school centers as soon as possible.

If applications for the next school year are received before June 15, the child will receive a place at the requested after-school center. Applications received after that time are processed based on staffing at the time.
