About the school
A new website for the Garðabær School of Music is under development and will be launched later this year.
The Garðabær Music School is located at Kirkjulund 11, where the main office is located, and at Breiðamýri in Álftanesskóli. It also teaches in elementary schools in Garðabær.

Check-in
To be admitted to the Garðabær Music School, students must be legally domiciled in Garðabær. Students in postgraduate studies and those studying middle school in singing are exempt from this rule but are subject to the rules of the Icelandic Municipalities Equalization Fund for equalizing the differences in students' opportunities for music education.

The Kirkjulund office is open:
- Mon.–Thurs.: 12 noon - 5 pm
- Fridays: 9:30–13:30
Role and main goals
The school's role is to promote students' increased ability to perform, enjoy, and analyze music, as well as to make them active listeners, in addition to promoting musical life in general.
The school works towards these goals by providing general music education. Students are given the opportunity to, among other things:
- learn to sing and play musical instruments.
- create their own music.
- participate in diverse interactions.
The program is individualized and efforts are made to ensure that teaching methods and topics are diverse and appropriate for each individual.

- Classical singing department
- Rhythmic department (jazz and rock)
There is a strong emphasis on student collaboration and singing, and the school has a brass band and string ensemble, as well as various ensembles. Piano, violin, and cello lessons are also offered according to the Suzuki method.
