Mayor of Gardabaer
Almar Guðmundsson is the mayor of Garðabær. He took office as mayor on June 3, 2022.
About Almar
Almar Guðmundsson has served on bæjarstjórn Garðabæjar since 2014, on the town council since 2018, and was chairman of the family council and the council of elders during the last election term. He is an economist from the University of Iceland and holds an MBA from the London Business School.
For the past year, Almar has worked at the Pension Funds Computing Center, where he is leading work on changes to the operation of a software system owned by pension funds. He worked at Krít Financial Solutions and later at Kvika from 2017-2020, and from 2009-2017 he was the Managing Director of the Icelandic Employers' Association and the Confederation of Icelandic Industries. Before that, he held various management positions at Íslandsbanki and later Glitnir.
Almar was raised in Garðbængur. He is married to Guðrún Zoega and they have five children together.
