Many people with disabilities have valuable experience and knowledge that can be used in a variety of jobs. Sometimes, assistance or appropriate adaptations are needed to enable people to utilize their abilities.

Sheltered work, skills and day care

Disabled people who are unable to perform ordinary jobs and need more extensive assistance can apply for sheltered work, rehabilitation and day care. The services are tailored to each individual's needs in terms of support, duration and tasks.

The goal is to provide disabled people with training and support to increase their ability to participate in everyday life or in the labor market.

Supported employment

Disabled people with reduced working capacity can receive individualized services called Supported employmentThe goal is to assist people in finding suitable employment in the general labor market and support in doing so if requested.

Scholarships for people with disabilities

Disabled people can apply for a grant for social rehabilitation and social inclusion. The maximum grant amount is ISK 65,000.

You can apply for a grant for:

  • Purchase tools and equipment for homework or independent activities after rehabilitation.
  • Education that is not paid for under other laws.

Applications are advertised specifically for the fall. Applications are then accepted in Gardabaer service portal, under Disability Issues.

To be eligible for a grant, you must:

  • have a legal residence in Gardabaer
  • have reached the age of 18
  • have a permanent disability assessment
