Social counseling
The goal of social counseling is to support people in self-help so that everyone can enjoy themselves to the fullest. All residents of Garðabær, 18 years of age and older, can receive counseling free of charge.
Advice and support
Welfare counselors assist with personal and social problems and provide support and information about social rights.
Examples of advice and assistance:
- Financial assistance.
- Guidelines regarding housing options.
- Parenting counseling (course).
- Post-divorce collaboration (SES).

Confidentiality
Welfare staff are bound by a duty of confidentiality regarding the affairs of those who seek help. Exceptions to confidentiality may only be made in accordance with legal obligations, for example if a child is in danger.
