Sumarhraun
Sumarhraun is a service that is available during the summer for children with special needs in grades 1 to 7 in Garðabær to make it easier for them to participate in summer courses.
Summer course support
Children receive support during summer courses from a support worker who assists them as needed.
The goal is to:
- give all children the opportunity to participate in summer courses with the support each one needs
- provide children with security, promote independence and social skills
Special summer courses
Special summer courses are for children who have difficulty attending traditional summer courses and need a more specialized arrangement or for those who want a quieter week. The courses are held in Breiðamýri in Álftanes.
Apply in Sumarhraun
You are applying for support for summer courses and Sumarhraun in Gardabaer service portal before the advertised application deadline (note that the application for Sumarhraun only appears in the spring).
When information about the courses your child will attend is available, the following information must be sent to the email address agustthr@gardabaer.is or adaman@gardabaer.is.
- Course name.
- Timing.
- Location.
Length of support
You can apply for 7 weeks of full-day summer courses. The duration applies to support for general summer courses and specific Sumarhraun courses combined.
Attendance at Sumarhraun is offered if the course is only half a day.
