Discount on fees for families with children

Parents with 2 or more children in daycare, preschool or after-school care receive a sibling discount on fees. There is no need to apply for the discount, it is calculated automatically.

• 50% discount for a second child.
• 75% discount for children over two.
• The discount applies to the older child or children.
• A discount is given on the basic fee, but full price is paid for meals.

To accommodate low-income families with children, Garðabær offers income-related discounts on fees at daycare centers, preschools, and after-school centers. The discount is 40% of the resort fee

The sibling discount remains unchanged, as all parents receive a discount on preschool fees for siblings.

Reference income

• Individuals: Average income lower than 856,000 ISK per month.
• Cohabiting people: Lower total average income than 1,049,000 ISK per month.

The average income is based on the withholding tax register for the last 3 months when the application is submitted.

Guardians with income below the threshold apply for an income-related discount at the Garðabær Service Portal.

• The discount must be applied for by the 15th of the month for the discount to be calculated for the following month.
• A statement from the withholding tax register showing income for the last 3 months must be included. Withholding tax statements are available at tax.is.
• The application must be renewed once a year. The discount is granted until June 30th, so you must reapply by July 15th each year.
