Daycare providers
Daycare providers provide care for children in their homes. Each daycare provider may have a maximum of 5 children at the same time. The length of stay can be up to 9 hours per day on weekdays.
Subsidy for daycare
Garðabær subsidizes part of the cost of daycare with a daycare provider from 10 months old. Thus, the cost of daycare is the same as for preschool. If parents are not entitled to full parental leave, they can apply for payment when the child reaches 6 months of age.
To apply for a subsidy, you must sign a service agreement with the daycare provider. The agreement will then be sent to the Garðabær daycare representative who will process the application.
Sibling and income-related discounts
Families with children and low-income parents may be eligible for discounts on daycare.
Daycare provider in another municipality
You can have a daycare provider for your child in another municipality and receive a subsidy from Garðabær.
The daycare parent needs:
- to have a valid license from the municipality in which it operates
- sign a service agreement with Garðabær
- sign a placement agreement with a parent and Garðabær
