Driving service for older people

You can apply for a driving service in Gardabaer service portalYou can also fill out a paper application at Garðabær customer service, Garðatorg 7.

A medical certificate must be included with the application.

To be able to apply

• You must have a legal residence in Garðabær.
• You need to be 67 years of age or older.
• You need to live in your own home.
• If you have used a driving service for people with disabilities before the age of 67, you have the right to continue that service.

Those who have access to their own vehicle, have received a subsidy for the purchase of a vehicle from the Social Insurance Institution, or benefit from a gasoline subsidy are generally not entitled to a driving service.

It runs weekdays from 6:30 AM to midnight except on major holidays. Then it runs at the same time as the Strætó. Saturdays it runs from 7:30 AM to 1 AM and Sundays from 9:30 AM to midnight.

Those using the service must have assigned trips approved by the welfare department.

The service area is: Hafnarfjörður, Garðabær , Kópavogur, Reykjavík, Seltjarnarnes and Mosfellsbær.

Each trip costs the same as 1.5 regular fares. Bus. One trip is considered when driving between two locations. Driving there and back is considered two trips.

If you attend a specialized day care outside of town, each trip costs one general fare. This applies if a comparable day care is not available here in Garðabær.

The fee is collected via payment slip at the end of each month.
