Garden service

Garðabær subsidizes lawn mowing for older people and people with disabilities who live in detached or townhouses. The goal is to make it easier for residents to keep their gardens tidy during the summer.

Subsidy for lawn mowing

Older people can receive a refund of up to 2,500 ISK for each mowing and grooming.

  • The discount is granted a maximum of three times each summer.
  • The amount is never higher than half of the total cost of each mowing.
  • You can purchase the service from a company with a valid operating license.

Please note that the discount does not apply to apartments in apartment buildings, where the maintenance of the garden is the responsibility of the housing association.

How do you get the discount refunded?

The process is simple:

1. You pay the company full price for the service.

2. You bring the invoice to the Garðabær Service Center.

3. Garðabær deposits the refund into your bank account.

The invoice must state the following:

  • Your name, social security number and address.
  • Bank account for reimbursement.
  • Date of mowing, number of working hours and total cost.

Assistance from the Icelandic Vocational School with gardening work

Garðabær's work school helps with gardening work other than mowing from the beginning of June.
