Enrollment in Garðabær preschool has been successful and by mid-January all children born in early December 2024 and earlier had received an invitation to attend preschool.

A new multi-purpose social facility in Lambamýri in Álftanes will be officially opened on Wednesday, January 28th at 1:30 p.m. The facility will, among other things, house félagsstarf for senior citizens in Álftanes, and the Álftanes Senior Citizens Association (FEBÁ) will be based in the new premises. At the official opening, a renewed cooperation agreement between Garðabær and FEBÁ will be signed.

A youth center has now opened in Garðabær. The opening night was full and it is clear that the town's residents are interested in the activities. Ragnhildur Jónasdóttir, project manager of the Garðabær youth center, says the work is off to a good start and that it will now grow and prosper in step with the young people in the town.

The Education and Leisure Department and the Welfare Department of Garðabær offer courses for parents who want to increase their skills in handling their parenting role.

Proposals for the future planning of Norðurness on Álftanes were presented at a well-attended residents' meeting held at Álftanes School.

A fun opening night for a new youth center will be held on January 14th.

A residents' meeting for the preliminary presentation of the local plan for a new residential area and golf course on Norðunes Álftaness will be held on Wednesday, January 14th at 5:00 PM, at Álftanesskóli.

The Garðabær Sports and Recreation Council is advertising for applications for achievement grants for individuals and groups, according to the ÍTG achievement policy, article 3.3.

The 2026 Garðabær Sports Festival was held in Ásgarður, where the 2025 Garðabær Athletes of the Year were named and awards were given for outstanding achievements in various fields of sports.

There was a lot of excitement when the new and larger 5-year-old department at Sjálandsskóli was officially opened in its own premises on the school grounds. Students and staff of the department warmly welcomed parents and other guests when the department was opened.
