Normal opening hours are from the end of the school day until 16:30On days when classes are cancelled, the school is open from 8:30 a.m. Parents must register their child separately on those days.

Open all day:

• on planning days
• on interview days
• during winter break
• during the Christmas and Easter holidays (all weekdays except Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve)

The after-school centers are closed one day per school year, on Garðabær Education Day. You can see all the important days in the school calendar.

We strive to ensure that all children who want to attend after-school care are given a place.

Registration for after-school care is through Väla Vetarfrístund. Registration is valid for the entire school year (August to June). It is best to register a child in the spring for the following school year.

• The after-school centers will be open six working days before the start of primary school, i.e. August 14-21, and are only for children (born in 2020) who are starting primary school.
• Students born in 2019 and starting 2nd grade will also be offered a five-week break before the start of primary school, i.e. August 17-21.
• Daily opening hours will be from 9:00 – 16:00. The school opening day for primary schools is Monday, August 24, on which day the after-school centre will be closed. On August 25, regular school hours will begin and after-school centres will be open for students in grades 1-4 who are registered there.
• For 6 days of accommodation for children born in 2020, a leisure fee of ISK 16,650.- will be charged, in addition to which parents will pay ISK 250.- per day for afternoon refreshments. The total cost for the week is therefore ISK 18,150.-
• For 5 days of accommodation for children born in 2019, a leisure fee of ISK 13,870 will be charged, in addition to which parents will pay ISK 250 per day for afternoon refreshments. The total cost for the week is therefore ISK 15,120.
• The fee is independent of the child's length of stay and there is no discount on the fee for this week. Please note that this registration is valid for these days in August only. Students bring a morning and lunch snack and receive an afternoon snack during break time.
• The invoice for August break will be sent to your online bank account on August 1. The parent who applies for the break will automatically be the payer.
• Registration begins Tuesday, May 5. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their children are registered for after-school care this extra week. Instructions for registering for the August break can be found here.

• The last day to register for this extra week at the after-school care center is June 1st.

If fewer than 12 children are registered for the after-school center on days with longer attendance, the activities are combined with another after-school center. Staff from the student after-school center always accompany them between locations.

Registration instructions

1. Registration is on Väla leisure websiteIt is recommended to use the website on a computer.
2. Make sure to select Garðabær in the top left corner.
3. Select the length of attendance and the days you want to register your child.
4. Submit a registration.

You will receive a confirmation email when your registration is successful. It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that the registration is confirmed.

Changes to the length of stay are recorded in Vola. Changes to the length of stay must be made before the 20th of each month for them to take effect the following month.
