Election meeting

The election meeting for the Garðabær municipal council elections, which are scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, will be held at the Mýrinn Sports Center and Álftanesskóli.
The election meeting will begin at 09:00 and last until 22:00.

The Gardabaer Electoral Commission has accepted six candidacies for the local elections in Gardabaer, which are scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 16th.

The offers have all been declared valid, and they are:

B - list of the Progressive Party
C - list of Restoration
D - list of the Independence Party
G - list of the Garðabær list
M - list of the Centre Party
S - list of the Social Democratic Party

Electoral roll

The electoral register for the local elections to be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 will be on display to the public at the Garðabær service center in the Town Hall at Garðatorg , from April 24, 2026 until election day.

The electoral register shall include those who meet the requirements of Article 4 of the Election Act No. 112/2021 and are registered as legally domiciled in the municipality according to the population register of the National Registry as of April 8, 2026.

The right to vote in local government elections is granted to:

a. every Icelandic citizen who has reached the age of 18 when an election is held and has a registered legal address in the municipality,

b. any Danish, Finnish, Norwegian or Swedish citizen, provided that he otherwise meets the conditions of subparagraph a,

c. any foreign citizen, other than those listed in subparagraph b, who has had a registered legal domicile in this country for three consecutive years prior to election day, provided that he otherwise meets the conditions of subparagraph a.

Students etc. residing in the other Nordic countries have the right to vote here, provided they have applied electronically to the National Register of Iceland to be included on the electoral register.

Comments on the electoral register shall, in accordance with Article 32 of the Election Act No. 112/2021, be directed to the National Register of Iceland, which will immediately process them and make appropriate corrections. Such corrections may be made up until election day.
