Garðabær Town Council has approved policies in various areas. The policies are generally developed in collaboration with stakeholders and there is a strong emphasis on giving the town residents the opportunity to participate in shaping the policies.

News08.06.2026Sports teachers at Sjálandsskóli received recognition
Physical education teachers at Sjálandsskóli received recognition from Reykjavík University for outstanding assessment in school sports. The development project Cycling during School Time was considered, and that project received funding from the Garðabær Development Fund. The project focuses, among other things, on systematically improving students' cycling skills.

A total of 3,205,201 krónur was raised at the Jazz Village in Garðabær, which took place over the weekend of April 30th – May 3rd. The Alzheimer's Association benefits from the sale and receives unrestricted sales of furniture and items from Góði hirðinn, while Húsgagnahöllin, Tekk and Ikea also contributed to the project.

The Town Artist of Garðabær 2026 was named at a ceremony in Sveinatunga on Garðatorg on May 28th. The Town Artist is actor Jónmundur Grétarsson. On the same occasion, architect Sigurður Hallgrímsson was honored for his invaluable contribution to architecture.
